Even though all day Wednesday was predominantly dry, the trails were almost impossible to ride in places due to the torrential rain the day before, but 15 Moos braved the slippery conditions and sub zero temperatures, with first rides of the year for last years Captain Owgie, Dai ‘Ayeeeeeee’ Shop, Chrissie ‘Stunt’ Watkins, Jim ‘McAnus’ McManus, Nick Brain, Paul ‘Every Little Helps’ Hughes and Dai Eye. It was largely an uneventful ride due to the adverse conditions under wheel, but the highlight was undoubtedly the descent of Rudry Mountain. Having been lucky enough to be the first to descend along with the Captain, we were treated to a brilliant sight as we watched 13 sets of lights descend the steep trail, it could have easily been a scene from a Steven Spielberg film, and when Scrippsy finally brought up the rear the scene became even more believable, because with his wrinkly features and pasty complexion he really did look like something Extra Terrestrial!! Covered in mud, wet and cold we decided to call on our old friends at the Church House in Bedwas, it was after this small pit stop that we lost 3 members as Tom, who incidentally is not drinking alcohol during the month of January, Mark Owgie and Harty decided to call it a night and go home early, this is not the first time that this has happened and is a very poor showing for some of the more established members of the Moos, this incident has duly been noted in the Captains log, and it will be decided by the disciplinary committee next week whether or not to award the first yellow cards of the year! Back at HQ Dickie turned up in his Sunday best to explain to us why he hadn’t been able to make the ride. I think he had mistaken us for people who actually gave a damn, but he still proceeded to bore us with his feeble excuses! With no Beaker Wherlock there was plenty of food for everyone and the soft chicken nuggets were a godsend for Scrippsy who was able to suck the flavour out of them without damaging his gums too much! In a couple of weeks it is Scrippsy’s birthday and us being a kind bunch want to get him something special, but we have so far drawn a blank, so if anyone has any suggestions as to what we can get him please e-mail option@migglymoos.co.uk It will only be half a ride next week as it is being taken by ex-Captain Owgie so we will probably end up having tea at his house, which will please the Captain no end!!! |
