Not the dizzying height in numbers as last weeks ride of 17 but sometimes you have to sacrifice quantity for quality. Ten moos including the captain on his monthly outing were treated to some very mild weather for this time of year under clear and star filled skies. The herd once again laden with the recently retired G. Scripps (we want to know who dug him up) set off at a very keen pace through the woods up to the Maenllwyd lane. The normally fast and not so technical adjacent path proved to be a little more difficult to navigate due to lack of use in recent months. (Hope the forestry come dig this). All down safely it was onward and upward to the ridgeway , somewhere along the way there the first casualty occurred in the feeble way of Jock losing his "bumbag" and having to backtrack. On approaching our summit we came up against the second animal traffic jam in two weeks. Last week it was a flock - this week a fellow herd.. Wondering what the hold up was we got closer to find the farmer struggling to seperate two out of the pack; one was the runt and the other with calf. Immediately halving the farmers problem by pointing out Crock was with us the other half was soon to be solved. Take a bow Nails McAnus , with expert precision he rounded up the herd leaving one man (the farmer) and his dog open jawed in amazment, clearing the track and allowing us to pass. Unfortunately this is where we lost ONE MOO AND HIS STEED together with Gaz until we reached the top of Rudry common. On the captains reliable infomation we searched for a new trail that didnt leave us dissapointed , the joy was evident on all moos faces when reaching the bottom. A few swift ones in the Maen meeting up with Jock and it was a full compliment to return to HQ. Johnsy did a little better this week and avoided the Moo Trap after becoming it's latest victim last outing. However his wife did report back on his bruised and battered purple helmet saying it was no good for anything anymore (we did tell him to stop shining it so often). Dai eye greeted us at HQ once again showing his continued moral support, but together with everyone else forgot Steve Harts 33rd birthday. Perhaps next week eh!! Honored O.B.E |
