I was riding along on my way to meet the Moos, thinking to myself what a lovely sunny evening, looking forward to tonight’s ride. I was wondering what Dai Shop has in store for us, when I turn into the Legion Car park…….. and………Oh no! it’s the Goons!……. The Goons can’t stay away, they said they rode over, but some were later seen making their way back to their vehicles at the Legion car park. Goons Captain Jon saying, “We have come over cause there’s no other club in the area that can give us the verbal abuse, the technical bike riding skills and entertainment that the Moos can offer!” Within the gathering crowd was Frank the Bus, who introduced his mate, Gareth the Bus, who was looking forward to his inaugural ride especially after Frank the Bus, had informed him that the rides were of a gentle nature! Off we set on Dai Shops (and his advisors) ride, up through the muddiest trail in Machen, half of Singlespeeds trail, then onto the Ridgeway. Someone said to Dai Shop, “You taking the Goons down the ‘Drop of Death’”? “Nooooooo, not if I can Help it!” was Shop’s answer But it was not to be. One of Dai’s advisors had different ideas…….. On to the ‘Drop of Death’ we went! The ‘Drop of Death?’ asked the Goons ‘what Drop of Death?’ Of the 20 or so riders who were out, only 3 riders failed to do it, one Goon, Frank the Bus & Gareth the Bus, and only Dai Eye had to bail out! Fair doos to the Goons, they stopped…..looked….. then went for it all at there first attempts, then watched and shouted abuse as fellow Goons & Moos plummeted! All being filmed by Jim to view later on the web site. Dai Shop, Owen, Steff, Dickie & Marty all doing it for the first time, we all new it was Dickie's first time, screaming on his way down as if it was his first ever orgasm! Has the ‘Drop of Death’ lost its fear factor? Must we now look for pastures new?! Then up the Ridgeway, then onto Rudry common, every one safely down except Chrissie. ‘Where is he’ someone asked. “He’s waiting for his audience”, cries Dickie. With that over the top he came……..”He’s going for it”….. was heard from his audience………. You guessed it……. what a truly magnificent crash it was, disappearing straight into the ferns. Yet again Chrissies living up to is every growing reputation of a true Stuntman. Good to see Frank the Bus & Gareth the Bus getting down Rudry common in one piece, they can’t wait to do ‘The Drop of Death’ next time! Onto the Maen for light refreshments and the usual Goons/Moos banter. Then back through the woods and what a disaster that turned out to be. On that note the Captain wants all Moos to know, that lights will be used, when the Captain says so and not before! Back to the headquarters for yet another excellent spread. Photo’s of the new Moos were taken for the website by Jim. Frank the Bus, Chris (Ade Edmonson look alike) & Owen, all very resplendent in a Moos jersey. For the Moos who are injured, on holidays, or had other commitments, you missed yet another excellent ride, we look forward to riding with the Goons in the near future. Finally, all the Moos wish Martyn Ashfield a speedy recovery and hope he gets well soon: can’t wait for some more poems! All for now. Bernard Scripps |
