Well it was the turn of the ‘Phantom’ Cardiff boy to take a ride this week, and what a ride it turned out to be. Old Marty was beside himself with worry in the lead up to his ride, and went to extra special measures to make sure that it would be a success, even going as far as thoroughly researching his route, and sending me the maps to give a second opinion!

   

   

Some would say he has shown tremendous initiative and endeavour, the rest of the Moos would say what a Sad Git!! But he needn’t have worried as he served up a veritable feast of cross country and superb downhill riding, which had something for everyone, he even incorporated a visit to the mountain top diner where in years gone by would have been the end of Dickies ride as he would of stopped and gorged himself on burgers with plenty of onions, not anymore instead of us riding off and leaving him wallowing with mouthfuls of cholesterol dripping from his mouth on to his jersey, it is him who is riding off and leaving most people in his wake. The transformation in Dickie from being a contented happy little round pudding into a fit lean (almost son No1 in his parent’s eyes!!!) fighting machine has been nothing short of a miracle!!

Old Crocky is still proving to be the ‘Steady Eddie’ of the Moos Herd, nothing too spectacular or outrageous but he just keeps plugging away especially when he gets to the top of a hill, much to the disgust of Scrippsy! Although Crock is still up to his old tricks, just like the ‘pain in the backside’ kid at school who always latches on to the new boy because the poor unsuspecting soul hasn’t been around long enough to get the measure of him, Crock is playing this game with Roger Farqhuar Smithers Smythe Carruthers Colling Morgan, for there has been reports of a Ferrari cruising the streets of Cardiff with a life size scarecrow in the passenger seat leering at all the girls as they pass by, when in fact it has been Crocky and Roger FSSCC Morgan going for a spin. Crocky also tried this latching on trick to Kev the Plane when he was a new boy, although cruising around in a mushy pea colour Vauxhall Astra Belmont didn’t have the same effect!!!

Scrippsy was passing comment last week on how much the Professor enjoys reading the Odes and Captains Reports, for those of you who don’t know, Scrippsy’s pet name for his boss down at the parachute HQ is The Professor, in fact the old fool has lots of pet names for the important people in his life, he calls his father in law ‘The Colonel’, his daughters ‘My Princesses’, his favourite nephews ‘Snob and Elbow’ his grandson ‘Champ’ and his wife ‘My Foxglove’ . Funny then that they all have the same name for him ‘That Tw*t’!!!!

Usually the Captain would give a detailed account of the weeks ride, but he was unable to attend last week, he did give a long winded excuse but then slipped up and was heard muttering that he couldn’t be bothered because of the torrential downpour that occurred half an hour before the ride. Although he has been doing a good job in certain areas of the Captains Remit, his Easter term report does read ‘Needs to concentrate more, and needs to be able to apply himself more often’!! We all know that he has dropped out of society and has gone back to become an (im) mature student studying ‘The Adventures of Rupert Bear’ but he really should be getting these reports in on time!!!!

Next weeks ride will be taken by that seemingly untouchable leader of the Moo Merits who has had god like legendary status bestowed upon him, none other than Russ Ludlow, who was telling the Moos last week that one of his childhood heroes was Niki Lauda, Niki Who??........!!NIKI LAUDA, Niki WHO??........!!
