Captain Pealys Corner

8th September 2010

Budgies Debut

Following on from the unforgettable debuts of –

Joe Cole for Liverpool FC in 2010, getting red carded

The Iranian ladies rugby union teams European international debut against Italy where they turned out in veils and tracksuits

And then there was that big ship that sunk in 1912

Then came………………………..

The rock band !

The movie !

The bird !

and finally….

The ride leader !

As all good rides normally start with a de-brief by the leader to the captain, outlining the route in case of delays, mechanicals etc – this one ……………………………..didn’t!

Instead Captain got told I haven’t planned one as it was too wet on Monday to go out!

As you know all good rides then build from a nice gentle beginning, helping those elder riders to get the old legs going – this one …………………………………..didn’t!

It was straight up Turners in no specific order, a staggered departure and no idea of how many riders were out.

As with all good rides, the first major descent soon follows the first climb – this one …………………………………………………………………………………didn’t!

It was onward and upward behind Trethomas tips!

All good rides do have an element of surprise and quite possibly a change of direction to seek out some downhill routes – this one ………….eh !....................................didn’t!

It was cross lumpy land to find the zig-zags, heading to Bedwas!

Some of our greatest ever rides always have a mid-ride pub stop, especially when passing establishments who have shown strong support to our little club – this one ……..didn’t!

We descended down through Bedwas, missing out on the Church House, passing the Bridgend Inn and the Fishermans!

Most of the outstanding rides of any year always has a minimal amount of lane work where planning and knowledge ensure we mountain bikers ride on mountains – this one …………………………………………………………………………………….didn’t!

It was Turners Lane, The Cwm Lane, Rudry Lane, Van Road Lane, I was half expecting to see bloody Cleo in the common car park!

Thoughtfulness and consideration for fellow Moos are always a requirement for top ride of the year – this one …………………………………………………………….didn’t!

Losing Mike by Rudry, splitting of the herd on the common, further mutinee’s leading the ride back to The Maenllwyd early!

At least nearly all good rides end up in the Maenllwyd, where there are always plenty of local species on show – this one ……………………………………………….didn’t!

As everyone was too busy looking at the Welsh Rugby International chomping on his Pasta!

There is always the HQ antics, where the banter flows quicker than the Beer and the Thursday morning bad head slows the work-flow that day – this one …….…..didn’t!

It was early to bed for most, even Captain only had 3 pints and bed by 11.00

In my time I have seen Budgies pull off some amazing tricks, such as –

Climbing ladders, fetching items, high-fiving, whistling tunes, talking, waving and even playing soccer and I was advised that Budgies can lead Miggly Moo Wednesday Rides – let me tell you………………………………………………………..this one can’t!

Keep Mooin
