Ride leader – Vice Captain Johnsy
Pre Ride Communications
will be late
The Meet – 24 persons at the Legion, 23 Moos and a young professional female World Cup downhiller, a big welcome to Manon, hope you had a good night, apologies the boys wouldn’t let you stay for a pint in The Monty.
Johnsy favourite to start, it was over to brokeback and down into the frozen depths of the descent. Most took it on and succeeded. Russ Ludlow was totally impressed by Manon as she simply rode over the end with no fear, no pre-view of the drop and actually went backwards on one wheel……………WOW!
Over to The Run, where Johnsy decided it was time to show off in front of our guest, great skills shown Mr Vice, or should that be Mr ICE………………ooooooops!
Across to the viaduct into Waterloo we then headed up the lane, hearing the request from Gaz, as to where we were going.
At the bottom of the lane up to the common they boys waited only to be re-directed to The Monty, for an early pint stop.
At the Monty, there was rumblings of unhappy Moos coming from the car Park, rumours inside were that the Mountain Bike riders of the club wanted to continue on a ride and not stop for an early pint.
Would they stay or would they go?
Enter Jim, who up until this point was not likely to receive the Cap’ns choice for the Victor Meldrew award this year but then, our Victor ‘Jim’ Meldrew appeared, stating..
I Don’t believe it! Are we riding or not, on Saturday night you promised us a proper ride!!!
Off went Jim, and this was when a split occurred in the night, so if you went on the official Miggly Moo ride as lead by your Vice captain Mr Johns, please read the official ride report thus posted to the website.
If you were one of the peacocks, who puffed up their feathers to show off their biking skills to the guest on the night, then please read the un-official ride report as posted on the website.
As the Captain has explained there was a breakaway group formed at the Monty that consisted of 10 people, thankfully one of the mutineers has since come forward and has given me a detailed report of the ride that was led by the chief mutineer Jimmy Mc...
After leaving the official ride party the breakaway group looking to impress the new MTB Girl on the night headed for Rudry Common and onto the Beech trees downhill, talk of the night was that Shimano had brought out a new 10 speed cassette that blows away the current 9 speed edition and if you get the XTR version it saves you a whole 0.5g of weight!
After the Beech Trees the unofficial group then proceeded onto Cometson Farm and onto the Ridgeway, from this point it was a mad dash again to impress the new MTB girlie past the Mean, the group couldn’t pop in for a pint as it was far too early, onwards and upwards to the Carling Tree entrance it would be then...
At this stage the my insider has informed me that the pace was good and the banter was even better, a more riveting conversation had evolved – Race Face have brought out a carbon seat post that weighs less than a Snicker Duo...
After the Carling Tree run it was a few more laps around the woods again to impress the new MTB girlie rider, my inside aid has informed me that the MTB girl enjoyed listening to the tall ginger person but didn’t have a clue as to what he was actually saying?
After the woods it was a quick as you can blast back to HQ to consume copious amounts of Energy / Health drinks and energy bars...
A good ride was had by all NOT...
The Vice would like to thank the mutineer that came forward
to give me a detailed report of the night’s events, unfortunately he
can’t ride this Wednesday as he’s away with the boats...?
A wonderful pint was enjoyed in the comforts of the Monty, where the conversation was very much around the strop by Mr Jim. Victor Meldrew coming your way? Not sure Knotty has been a happy soul all year.
There was also the shock that Mr Ryan had once again taken off with the Professional riders……….Mmmmmm
Gordon resisted and can now once again be referred to as Scripsy…….he likes that
The official Miggly Moos headed off up through Rudry and onto the climb up to the top of The Common.
The terrain was tough going as the frosty ground was rutted and still quite deep with frozen snow.
Cap’n trailing behind, was thinking this must be a candidate for the worse ride of the year, a quick phone call to Mr Option would result in the name Johnsy appearing on the awards list with the date of report to be the 8th Dec 2010.
Around the side of the common we rode, noticing fresh tracks of other bikes before us, who could they be?..............we had no idea.
Down Beech Trees, which rode very well and no casualties to report at the bottom.
Slight technical hitches occurred on the path towards the Van Road Lane, no surprise it was Wrighty, ensuring he played his Joker to ensure the worst mechanic of the year award stayed in the Wright household for another year……...maybe!
Up through the woods and on to Cometson’s Lane, we then headed down Ridgeway back to the Maenllwyd for further refreshments.
Wrighty had been assisted by OBE and Newbury on his return to the village, where they visited the Legion. Excellent camaraderie shown by the boys, …….that’s the spirit.
At the Maenllwyd, a two pint stop was enjoyed and a straight forward dash back through the forestry to HQ.
Cap’n peal took a slide on the footpath by the bridge…………….plonker!
At HQ the usual food, drink and banter was had. Dai’s birthday drink was presented. The awards sheets were handed out and we were also joined by another group of riders who had been using our trails for the night.
Funny how we hadn’t met up with them given that we rode exactly what they had………well nearly!!!
It has to be said, that overall it was not a great ride, had better, had worse, but one clear message that comes from the night is that no matter what the plan, to have split from the ride leader at such an early stage of the night, was not welcomed.
The guest rider has written to thank us for our hospitality but the fact that the boys wanted to show off in front of our guest didn’t impress, and she has stated that she was not overly impressed with the riding ability and whilst she was grateful they showed her some new routes, she only really ………………………….
Came out for a PINT !!!
Final places 40 – 12, as follows –
