4X
Day
A
massive thank you to all the boys who rode and the families that
turned up to support. A great big effort by everyone to make the day
the success it was.
The
Venue
The Turner family were fabulous hosts and the weather Richard
had organised made the day even better, the track which took 2 ½ years
to perfect was only finished that morning, thanks to the farm hand – Tom.
The Course
The 3rd choice of routes that had been tested over the months (yeah
right!) by Vice and Cap’n, a worthy selection, I trust you
agree?
An open start, lead you in to the first turn to gain the initiative,
then on to the tighter track, which had diversions in it to slow you
up a tad.
Once off the Fern Bank it was flat out to the natural field drop,
caution was required to control the speed on the entry to the jump
as a right turn into the field was next and across to the Track Jump,
down on to the Manure Jump and through the brook.
The
left hander slowed you up to allow time to plan the entrance to
the Trailer Jump, well that was the plan anyway, hadn’t accounted
for Russ Evans, had I? Video footage captures the air lift trailer
clearance – top man!
You were not the only one though. A good few others cleared it – great
effort lads.
Final sprint to test your stamina to the finish and that was the end
of the 1min 13 sec run, as set by Jock.
The Format
Slightly longer than planned, but we wanted to give everyone a few
goes and to keep the standards fairly close and therefore competitive,
which I hope it did.
It must be said that there were numerous surprises on the day, showing
that no one could be complacent. Could you Beaker!
One timed individual heat, 2 points races, a 3rd ranking race and
then semi-finals and final.
Uplifts
provided a well earned rest, as I gather the whole day was a bit
of hard work, wasn’t it?
The
Results
The points are what will carry through to the overall sports night
competition – results to be announced soon.

Well
done to young John
Disappointed
in Crockett – I now know how his dad feels.
A big well done to Jimmy Mac, as he turned on the pace and style to
win the final, in front of his Mam and Dad, who had finally seen him
win a trophy after all these years.
The Evening
The BBQ was excellently monitored by Dickie, Mrs Cap’n and Knotty – Thanks
all, there were over 400 portions of Hot Dogs and Burgers served up
on the day, a fab effort.
Beer flowed nicely throughout the day, Wrighty finally got his way
and opened the 5% Real Ale – it was all very nice, cheers Jon.
The
Lager, I believe, was pretty much fully used and the last revellers
left the field at about 11.30, when option finally got Cap’n
off the microphone.
The Honesty Bar has raised £44 and your entry fees of £2.50,
as per each sports night event, have been taken from your £15,
and there is still a surplus of c.£50 which will go towards another
event during the year.
Thank
You’s
As mentioned on the day, Ashfields, Machen RFC, Russ Evans, John Allsopp,
Helen, GoBoing, Johnny Wright, Dickie Watkins, The Turner family, The
sheep for moving fields and Johnsy.
And finally the Moo’s for the commitment and effort on the day – what
a bunch of cows you really are!
Sports night positions will be announced on Wednesday.
Keep
Mooing
