Ride Report – Sports Night 4 – The Downhill Champs
The long awaited downhill event for 2010 had the extra pressure this year of being included within the Sports Night Events.
A strong turn out of 22 racers, supported by 5 organisers made for a successful event.
Notable absences were, Tom (got a cold), Option (got to work), Chrissie (got no enthusiasm), Knotty (got no manners).
The routes were planned the week before and this gave everyone the chance to plan ahead, especially for the descent off the mast. I had heard that numerous sneaky rides had been taken. Not competitive, are we lads?
Captain announced at the legion that there would be an extra track thrown in for fun – good decision Mr Vice, Carling was the chosen run, and so it was off we went on our warm up lap of the woods.
1st – Ade
1 min 28.9 secs
A nice pleasant climb out of the Quarry, took our racers off to Ade’s run, for stage 2.
1st – Ade
3 min 46.6 secs
Half-way re-fuelling was had at the Hollybush. Captain and Wrighty stayed behind to do more organising. Christmas meal booked, discount arranged, numbers need to be confirmed ASAP. Check your emails, Ta !
Up to Ochrwyth, and on to the Mast, overall tiredness no doubt going to play a factor for the final descent to the T.A.
Mass start was the order of the day, and all Moo’s were to lay their bikes on the ground and touch the Trig Point, all after tasting some of Scripsy’s donated whiskey.
It was off……………
Back at the bottom, Captain and Wrighty arrived at the T.A to find Roger Parnell, sitting down playing on his phone. Rog explained that he wasn’t really competing tonight, and when challenged as to why, he explained that he was just too competitive !!!!! work that out?
There was a huge crowd gathering at the TA, to witness the finish. There was our resident chinaman or and Lewis’s dad.
Anticipation was huge, who will be first, which way will they come, whose gonna bin it and get hurt, well…………….
Lights appeared up the road by Daf’s house, here came our first rider. Wait! No from the other way looking towards the Royal Oak came some more lights, the race was on who would get to the TA first………………………Mr Beaker came in closely followed by Gaz.
1st – Beaker
4 min 39 secs
Rumour had it that Mr Beaker had been out in the week cutting down a new trail, and so it came to pass that our previous Mr ‘lets go out and mark myself a route’ Gaz and been out-routed this year.
The overall results came in fast from the vide-printer, and it was announced that –
Our downhill champ for 2010 is –
Closely followed by Beaker and Jim.
Congratulations go to Lewis for finishing 8th overall, and a good effort by newby – Trev (10th)
Best endeavour goes to Dave Harris, he obviously spends too much time with Crockett, and like a hunting dog he followed his masters scent all the way down to the bottom of each run, as the final places show Crockett in 19th and Dave in 20th.
No score registered for our resident flat-lander, as he is still officially out there somewhere, maybe never to return?
Rog Parnell disqualified for not attempting the final run.
The overall standings for the Sports Night Event are as follows -
Gents, all to play for going into the final sports night event on the 24th Nov.
Please note that this event will be a Miggly Moo Extravaganza of all things that is Miggly Mooing.
Pub events, biking routes, bike racing, drinking games, Captains gameshow – it will be a jam-packed night and likely to mean an earlier start than usual, initial thoughts are 6.15 at the legion. Full details will follow.
Thanks for your efforts, thanks for Mr Berni, Johnsy, Gonzo and Nige for assistance on the night and a massive thanks to our elder statesman, Mr Scripsy. You really are one hell of a piss head.
